The women’s fiction debut of USA-Today bestselling author Edie Claire!
Once upon a hot, lazy summer at Indian Lake, Pennsylvania, two giggling twelve-year-old girls swore to stay best friends forever.
But some promises are hard to keep...
When hospital social worker Teagan Hansen is called to the bedside of a Jane Doe who has been beaten and left for dead with no ID and no memory, she expects to be dealing with a victim of domestic violence. The last thing she expects is to look into the eyes of the childhood friend who disappeared abruptly from her life fourteen years before.
Concussed, broken, and hypothermic, Jamie can’t remember her own name, much less what personal circumstances brought her to such tragedy. But as the pieces of her memory begin to fit together, she does remember how much her friendship with Teagan meant to her through the long years of foster care, hard work, and heartbreak that followed that one magical summer.
As the indomitable Teagan vows to help Jamie get back on her feet again, the women’s bond strengthens anew. But with Jamie’s life under threat from a man she can’t remember -- a man who is determined to find her again before she does -- Teagan’s loyalties to her friend, her profession, and her new marriage are tested to their limits. And when the women realize that their pasts have been intertwined far more deeply than either of them knew, the fate that separated them once before threatens to tear them apart again. And this time, it could be forever.
The Mud Sisters eBook Edie Claire
Basic plot - friend (T) runs into childhood friend (J) as a result of her current job as a social worker. This friend is the victim of a murder attempt and has amnesia. T works to personally help her old friend recover her memory and her health at a cost to her marriage and at a risk to her life. Eventually old friend returns to old destructive behavior to recover final bits of memory and meet her attacker. It seems to be a bit fraught on the emotional end, but I think that is what this author is going for. If that is what you enjoy - an emotional free-for-all - then this will be a book you will enjoy.
I think it starts out well, but once it transitions from basic premise to emotional rather than action based plot, I didn't enjoy it. I didn't find this an enjoyable way to solve a mystery.

The Mud Sisters eBook Edie Claire Reviews
I can easily relate to Jamie. I lost a parent at a young age as well but found a best friend whom I loved dearly. Unfortunately she moved away when we were 12 and I have recently been reunited with her so this book really touched me. There is also the intrigue of who Jamie is and what happened to her. I finished this book in 2 days and can't wait to check out more of this authors work!
Never a dull moment. The book takes right off and never settles down. You just never know the power of true friendship. This friendship shows what true friends do.......love, fight, love, argue, love, cuss each other, love, break up, love, make up only to love again. That's what real friends do. At the end of the day - they knew they had each others backs. Thru thick and thin. The author did a great job in capturing your attention and paying close attention to detail.
Great Job
Edie Claire has me hooked on her books! She develops interesting characters, provides them with interesting plot turns, and paces the plot so that you turn page after page after page until way too early in the morning on a work day! This is her debut in women's fiction, and therefore, some of the plot twists aren't up to her later books, but it's still worth reading. The story revolves around women's friendships - their depth, their endurance, and their strength - while introducing just enough conflict between the rediscovered friends that one must keep reading to be sure that there really will be a happy ending.
Interesting from them moment Teagan recognized the voice of a jane doe she had been called to interview in the ER. Teagan remembered the voice from childhood of a girl who was so close they became mud sisters. Now, many years later an intriguing story begins. One girl knows her purpose, her job as a social worker. The other is found severely injured, left for dead now in ER with amnesia.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but I got a surprise. This was touching, heart gripping, and powerful. The characters were enjoyable to read and I found myself totally engrossed in the story.
I've read several Edie Claire books but I believe this may just be one of my favorites. The plot starts with a bang and the suspense keeps you reading. Loved the relationships between Teagan and husband Eric and also Teagan and Jamie. I loved the ending and how the issues are resolved. Great job!
The two main characters are well developed. The author does a really good job of smoothly weaving in the back story. She also cleverly tempts you to go down a road of speculation as to the identity of the bad guy all the while you're thinking "can't be - no please." The bad guy wasn't fully fleshed out. This part needed more development. Also, the reasoning for his existence in Jamie's life was a little thin. It was a good story. I was entertained and will read other books by this author.
